Samuelin Poloneesi comes to the capital in 2028

Suomen Kansanmusiikkiliitto ry will turn 60 in just over a year, and Samuelin Poloneesi will be the main event of its anniversary year in 2028, held in our capital. Uudenmaan Kansanmusiikkiyhdistys and the association are preparing a lively 60th birthday celebration in Helsinki in the spring. Folk music and folk dance enthusiasts from all over Finland are invited.

The most recent Samuelin Poloneesi took place this March in Savonlinna, where thousands of folk music enthusiasts enjoyed a long weekend of concerts and club nights organised by Itä-Savon Kansanmusiikkiyhdistys. This national folk music festival, which moves from one host region to another, has been held since 1972. The festival will take a break next year.

A key part of the main Samuelin Poloneesi celebration is always the joint performance by folk musicians. Several hundred musicians come together to play the festival's namesake tune and the year's shared repertoire, drawn from the folk music of the host region.
